Education Day 2018
The annual event brings together funeral professionals and specialists, allowing SAIF members to keep up to date with issues and gain ideas for best practice for their own funeral business. Here is a look at just a few of the speakers you can hear from this year.
James Daley has been a consumer campaigner and financial journalist for more than 18 years.
Before launching Fairer Finance, he worked for the consumer group Which? where he campaigned for a better deal for customers of banks and insurers in the wake of the financial crisis.James also spent 10 years as a business and finance journalist, latterly as The Independent’s personal Finance Editor and cycling columnist. He lives with his family in Tooting, where he is also a local councillor.
Ann Chalmers has been Chief Executive of Child Bereavement UK since 2003.
She holds a BACP Accredited Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a University Accredited Diploma in Bereavement Counselling, and has been involved in the multi-disciplinary training of professionals in the area of loss and bereavement for more than 25 years. She represents Child Bereavement UK on a number of steering groups, bringing the families’ perspective to projects.
Dr Heather Conway is a Senior Lecturer in law at Queen’s University Belfast.
She is the author of the The Law and the Dead (Routledge 2016) and her research focuses on the laws surrounding the treatment of the dead, the fate of corpses and who has decision-making powers over human remains. Heather is also a council member of the Cremation Society of Great Britain, which she joined in 2017.
