SAIF vs SAIFInsure 24th Kee Cup 2018
The annual match between the funeral directors (SAIF) and the funeral trade suppliers (SAIFInsure) took place in June at St Pierre, Chepstow.
The match is played in a Ryder Cup format over two days. The trade team, led by the experienced Brian Hart, led the first day 31/2 to 21/2.
So, all to play for on the second day’s singles matches. The teams were evenly matched, even with some dubious handicaps, with many matches going down to the last hole. Gary Neill and his funeral director team came up short, with the SAIFInsure team winning the match 111/2 to 61/2.
The Longest Drive was won by John Taplin, who drove the green on the 400 yard, par 4 17th. He also won the Bucket and Spade Award for the best performance in a bunker.
The Nearest the Pin was not won, so the prize was auctioned off. The most notable win was Brian Hart, beating Jeremy West for only his fourth win in 24 years (48 matches).
Richard Edwards, back after knee surgery, led the singing of the Jeremy Corbyn song, followed by the Icelandic clap.
Once again, a great couple of days golf and fun. Thanks went to sponsors Bradnam Joinery, SAIFInsure, Coleman Milne, Golden Charter and The Fingerprint Man.
The Presentation Dinner was followed by the usual fines. In total £1,500 was extracted during the event by the Fine Master and his Assistant. All the money raised will be donated to the SAIF President’s charity, Great Ormond Street Hospital.
This sets the event up for next year’s 25th anniversary. Every member of SAIF and the funeral trade suppliers are welcome to play in this event, details of which will be announced shortly.
Anyone wishing to be involved should please contact Gary Neill on 01279 655477, or email Brian Hart.
