Great Glen Crematorium’s celebrants-in-training
A group of future celebrants experienced Great Glen Crematorium’s care first-hand during a visit as part of their training.
The Academy of Professional Celebrants (ACP) took a group of nine students to the site to see for themselves how a crematorium operates.
Great Glen Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 40 sites in England, Scotland and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.
Like all facilities run by the group, Great Glen Crematorium is committed to providing exceptional care and support – not just to the bereaved but to anyone who visits.
ACP is the UK’s premier celebrant training provider which, since 2018, has helped more than 600 people get the knowledge and skills they need to begin their careers as celebrants.
Managing Director Stuart Logan said: “It is a great benefit to take our students to a crematorium so that they get a better understanding of both the front and back-of-house operations.
“It helps them to be better informed about the cremation process and shows them what to look out for at their local crematoria, so that they can discuss these details with the families they are working with.”
He added: “We have met other crematorium operators but none of them stood out to us in the way that Westerleigh Group has.
“The amount of time they gave us was amazing. The tour we had was conducted by several members of staff of all different levels and was very well planned.
“The facilities at Great Glen Crematorium were out of this world and our visit has helped our delegates to better comprehend the importance of their role in providing compassionate and dignified care to individuals and their families during times of loss.
“It also reinforced the significance of respecting cultural and religious beliefs surrounding death and grieving.
“Thank you to all at Westerleigh Group and the amazing crematorium staff for making this happen and welcoming us and providing such a valuable learning opportunity.”
Divisional Operations Manager Claire Butcher, who covers Great Glen Crematorium and assisted the Great Glen team during the tour, said: “We’re very pleased to hear that the celebrants found their visit to us useful.
“During their time with us, they visited our pooja hall, chapel, crematory and grounds and got to use the lectern controls and operate the various music functions.
“If, by hosting the ACP party, we are helping the next generation of celebrants to provide a professional and sensitive service to the bereaved, then we are only too pleased to help.
“This, in turn, reinforces our aim of ensuring that every family who entrusts us to look after their loved one and provide a fitting final farewell for them receives exceptional standards of service in every aspect of it.”
