New premises for local Independent

Hillier Funeral Services has opened its third premises in Swindon. The fourth-generation firm, which has been providing care and attention to the community since 1923, has transformed a former garage in Highworth.

The opening was featured in the Swindon Advertiser where Funeral Arranger Becky Hillier explained: “It was very difficult to find a property to meet our requirements. The building was derelict, it had been used as a warehouse for quite a few years. It was just four walls and needed a new roof and all interior walls built. We’ve managed to do it up exactly as we wanted.”

The new site has two chapels, a counselling room offering free sessions for families, an onsite caretaker and a garage.

The Independent knows only too well about the changing nature of services that families request, as Becky added: “We still do quite a few funerals in church but more people are going towards having non-religious ceremonies. People have the freedom to have whatever they want.

“For us it’s about supporting the families through the process to help them arrange the funeral and to provide advice.”
