Child’s body perfectly preserved

Child uncovered

Construction workers in San Francisco have uncovered the perfectly preserved body of a young girl who was buried 145 years ago.

A red rose is still visible between the hands of the child who was discovered in a lead and bronze coffin underneath a house that was being renovated.

The casket’s windows revealed the blonde hair of the three year old girl, but there were no markings on the coffin.

Garden of Innocence, an organisation that provides burials for unidentified children, hopes to rebury the girl later this summer. Its founder, Elissa Davey, spent 48 hours working to create a new burial casket.
